Name Change

Bundlebees – Formerly Chorlton Sling Library

So why the name change?

Well Chorlton Sling Library originally started off as Chorlton Sling and Social back in 2015. It was set up primarily as a social meet for new parents in Chorlton to meet and chat about slings and try out other people’s.

This morphed into a sling library, where people would pay a hire fee to borrow a sling for a few weeks.

Rebecca, who was involved in setting it up from the start, is passionate about helping people to carry safely and comfortably.

The sling library sessions were held in various locations, Chorlton Library Sure Start room, the cafe in Alexandra Park (then Tea Hive, now Coffee Cranks), and more recently pre pandemic in Font Bar in Chorlton.

I joined in 2017, when I turned up to a very busy session to get advice on back carrying my 7 month old. I got chatting to people about my experience of carrying and what I’d tried. I loved it.

I headed off to do my babywearing peer supporter training and started volunteering regularly. The monthly sessions became every 2 weeks and were as busy as ever. I started to have an idea that more could be done with it. Rebecca couldn’t commit any more time than she was giving. I wasn’t quite in the right place, I’d had my 2nd baby and was suffering with postnatal depression (although I hadn’t admitted that at the time).

In November 2019 I did Slingababy’s 4 day babywearing consultancy course to widen my knowledge of babywearing.

I hadn’t had a chance to do anything by the time the pandemic hit us and the sling library was obviously cancelled.

August 2020, I decided to take it all on. Potentially not the best time but also probably not the worst.

I don’t live in Chorlton and I’m running everything from my home in Old Trafford. We have always had people from across south Manchester use the sling library but I could really see now that Chorlton really didn’t cover it. My customers have come from Didsbury, Stretford , Sale, Urmston, Hulme, Castlefield and of course Chorlton. The geographical part of the name was limiting. Plus, sling library didn’t cover all of the services I was offering now.

So Bundlebees was born, credit to my friend Naomi who came up with it.

Bundlebees now offers sling hire, consultations and I’m just starting to retail slings too. While currently still based at my home, I’m hoping to change that soon.

The official launch event for the name change was last week. Of course it takes a bit longer than that for everyone to know that it’s the same service. Please share with anyone you know.
